Diocese of Metuchen CYM Basketball League ( February 1, 2005) Important Technical Information about Viewing our Snow Cancellation webpage. (Spam filters prevent us from emailing snow cancellations to the league). Our snow cancellation notification page was viewed over two thousand times in January. Due to varying technical reasons many people were not able to see the most current information when snow cancellations were a possibility …or a reality! Depending upon which ISP and Web browser people use to view the snow message web page determine whether they will see an outdated misleading message or a recently updated reliable message at the same address! AOL users and Wal-Mart Connect users usually view outdated information. AOL users may not be viewing the latest version of your http://home.catholicweb.com/yandyam/index.cfm/map web page because of the way AOL "caches" or stores files. Your page is stored on AOL's own servers and updated every 24 hours. This allows AOL to save bandwidth and may also speed up the time it takes for a requested page to reach AOL customers. Unfortunately, if a page is changed during that 24 hour period, your members may not be able to view the most current version until AOL has stored it. In many cases this problem can be circumvented if AOL customers take specific action when they believe they are looking at an outdated web page. The procedure, which may allow AOL users to bypass the AOL cache, is described below and is copied from their web site. Instructions to bypass the AOL cache. "Even though AOL's Proxy cache is updated every 24 hours, a member can clear their Browser Cache and force the reload of a page. . . . PC users can force a refresh by holding down the CONTROL (CTRL) key on their keyboard and mouse clicking on the AOL browser reload icon." Some AOL and Walmart Connect members were also able to bypass this AOL problem by opening Microsoft Internet Explorer directly (outside of AOL / Walmart Connect) and viewing the snow message page through Microsoft Internet Explorer. Most people will already have Internet Explorer on their PC. If you need Internet Explorer, it can be downloaded at : http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/ It is important to ensure that Microsoft Explorer settings are correct to update each webpage each time you open one or you may still be viewing outdated information on the webpage. Here is how:
We apologize for the inconvenience these technical problems have created for people. We want our website and our ministries to be a blessing to those whom we serve. Stay safe and warm. Good luck to all teams!
