2007Events for Young Adults between 18 – 39 : married and singleThe Diocese of Metuchen Office of Young Adult Ministry is sponsoring a Fall 2007 series of Theology on Tap for 20’s and 30’s : Tuesday, October 30, 2007 // 7pm – 9pm Is our faith life from Sunday reflected in our work on Monday? As Christians we are asked to radiate the light of the Gospel into every facet of our lives. We can make our places of work holy by being holy people in the workplace. Jay Jorgensen is in the Diaconate Training Program in the Diocese of Metuchen. He is an attorney and the Presiding Municipal Court Judge for Middlesex County. Mr. Jorgensen has published four books, taught history courses, and was an Academic All-American Basketball Player. He is a frequent guest speaker to many groups and associations. His unique background enables him to be particularly well suited for giving his presentation "Faith in the Workplace." Monday, November 5, 2007 // 7pm – 9 pm What happens when bad things happen to good people? Is there a connection between faith and healing? Please join us on November 5 to find out. Our speaker will be Dr Anthony Tangorra. Dr. Tangorra has been committed to healing people for over 33 years. Appointed by Bishop Bootkoski, Dr. Tangorra serves as the lay moderator for the Cursillo Movement within the Diocese of Metuchen which is a movement committed to Christian spiritual growth. Tuesday, November 6, 2007 // 7pm – 9pm Have you ever been told by well meaning Christians that Catholics are not really Christian? Many hear that Evangelicals love, need, read and understand the Bible. What about us Catholics? Come and hear the good news about the Good News as Dr Smith explores Truth and decision making, meaning and our goals in life, and the relevance of scripture to our lives of faith. Dr. Steve Smith has served as a Director of Young Adult Ministry at a large parish in Chicago, and spoken at numerous TOT events in the Midwest. In 2007, he received his Ph.D. in New Testament and Early Christianity from Loyola University of Chicago. He is an expert on the Gospels, and has spoken at numerous parishes and universities in the U.S. and Canada. He has also been a guest on various Catholic radio and television programs. Dr. Smith works for the Archdiocese of New York and is also an adjunct professor of Scripture and Theology at three seminaries and universities, including Seton Hall University in East Orange, NJ. ----------- Monday, November 12, 2007 // 7pm – 9pm People in biblical times learned from their rabbi and also yearned to live as the rabbi did. Get ready to leave the boat when Deacon Mickey Coppola leads us in exploring modern manifestations of the ancient practice of discipleship and following in the footsteps of our Master. We will explore our baptismal calling to live as disciples of Christ in the modern world. Deacon Mickey Coppola is an adjunct theology professor at the College of St. Elizabeth and full time campus minister and religion teacher at Bishop Ahr High School. For 30 years Mickey worked for an oil company in corporate America. Mickey joyfully insists that he is very happy despite the $80,000 pay cut he accepted to serve in full time ministry to others. He is an active leader in many ministries at his parish of St. Anthony’s in Port Reading. ---------- Tuesday, November 13, 2007 // 7pm – 9pm “God did not give us a spirit of cowardice, but rather of power love and self control.” (2 Timothy 17). Join us as we explore what it means to live courageously for God. Ms. Tina Rockafellow is a school teacher as well as a youth minister at St. Magdalen DePazzi Parish in Flemington. She is committed to her faith as well as her graduate studies in Theology and Catechetics. Monday, November 19, 2007 // 7pm – 9pm Let’s explore who God is and how our understandings of God grow and change as we grow and change. Please join us for this fun interactive experience lead by a dynamic full time lay ecclesial minister of two parishes. Be prepared to have a good time from start to finish as you come to a greater understanding of your own spiritual journey – Past, Present, and Future. John Cook has been active in ministry for many years and has been serving as the full time youth and young adult minister for St. Cecilia Parish in Iselin as well as St. John Vianney Parish in Colonia for eleven years. John’s life journey has been all about spiritual and personal growth and makes him uniquely qualified to lead us on this journey of exploring our images of God at different chapters in our changing lives.
